Mission 44, in partnership with the Centre for Young Lives, has announced a series of events aimed at helping schools and their partners become more ambitious about inclusion. The events will bring together educators, academy trusts, local authorities, policymakers, funders, community organisations and young people, to explore what practical action can be taken to reduce lost learning and share best practice.

The first event kicks off in London on 18 March, with subsequent events planned in Manchester, Newcastle, Leeds, Bristol, Birmingham, Portsmouth, and Kent over the following 10-12 months. With a focus on solutions to local challenges, the series aims to equip decision-makers and practitioners with tools to improve attendance, reduce exclusions and suspensions, and support all children in achieving their potential.

Baroness Anne Longfield, Executive Chair of the Centre For Young Lives and former Children’s Commissioner, said:

“We are delighted to be working with Mission 44 on this exciting and important programme to make school a place for all children to succeed. The Government has set high ambitions to open up opportunities for all children and the challenge is now to put inclusion at the heart of our education system. I hope these events inspire system leaders and educators to find new ways to ensure every child thrives in school. This is more than improving education, it’s about transforming lives and communities, and we can’t afford to miss that opportunity.”

This initiative follows the recent launch of Mission 44’s Nothing Happens in Isolation campaign, which advocates for systemic change and inspires individual action to prevent school exclusions and foster a more inclusive education system.

Leicia Feare, Associate Director for Communications and Campaigns at Mission 44, said:

“These events will provide an opportunity to share insights from our Preventing Exclusions Fund partners, our work with the Who Is Losing Learning? Coalition and the stories and recommendations we’ve developed as part of the Nothing Happens In Isolation campaign. By bringing together key stakeholders, we can equip those at a local level with the knowledge and practical tools needed to drive meaningful action and really be ambitious about inclusion.”
