Last week at the Miami F1 circuit, Sir Lewis Hamilton and Mission 44 welcomed a group of local students to a career day like no other ahead of the weekend’s Grand Prix race.
The event was designed to immerse students from Mission 44 partners America On Tech and Miami EdTech in the exciting world of motorsport and give them insight into the incredible range of careers available within it.
Kicking off the day, Mission 44 founder and seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton shared inspirational words, answered questions from the students, and spoke about the life-changing opportunities his sport offers.
The group also had the chance to hear from Katharina Nowak, President of the Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix, who, at 28, has become the youngest senior executive working in F1 events today.
An interactive F1 Race Lab session, facilitated by our partner IBM, enabled young attendees to delve deeper into their career options and pathways into motorsport, while also sharing their thoughts on how to increase access to STEM careers for young people from underrepresented backgrounds.
Following this, students were taken trackside for a special behind-the-scenes tour of the Scuderia Ferrari HP garage, along with hands-on experiences at Pirelli’s tyre fitting area and Hot Laps garage.
“Talent is everywhere – but opportunity is not. That’s why access matters so much. There’s no better way to drive real change than by immersing young people in the world of motorsport. Seeing such a talented group of students connecting, contributing and engaging in conversations that could shape their futures is a powerful reminder of what happens when access meets opportunity.”
“Being at the circuit was so surreal. Seeing Ferrari and all the different people working there, including a lot of women, was very inspiring. They told me how to get into those roles and how to get connected with people. So if I ever want to work in F1, I have an idea of how to get there.”
